Who doesn't love receiving genuine, handwritten, snail mail, especially in our present digitally obsessed society? Glennon really gets me with this quote from her book Untamed:
"If you want to get jaded and numb, watch the news. If you need to feel human, read letters." - Glennon Doyle
As an "Acts of Service" love language kind of gal, the act of both sending and receiving letters, fills my cup. I feel an outpouring of love when I'm writing a letter to someone I care about, just as I feel giddy with love upon receiving a letter myself. I think it's more important now than ever that we tell the people we love "I see you and you're not alone in this struggle." Letters are excellent vessels for these kinds of reminders.
I had already set letter writing as one of my 30 goals prior to COVID, which looking back now seems like divine intervention. During a time of unprecedented uncertainty and isolation, being able to "help people feel human" is paramount.
So far, I've sent a little over 20 letters and counting. Never with the goal of receiving one in return (although I welcome the replies), but simply because I want to spread joy and gratitude.
